The
story of my Harrington family begins (my current knowledge of it!) in Bedford
Falls, NC in the year 1740 with Thomas Harrington and his wife Sarah Shipman.
My branch of this very large family continues on with son Jacob and his
wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Potter who moved to Clay county, Missouri in the
early 1800s. Their son, William Harrington is my great great grandfather.
William married Nancy Jane Hall
on Oct. 27, 1839 in Buchannan county, MO. They were blessed with four children,
three daughters and a son before her untimely death about 1851. One of
their daughters was Susan Jane Harrington, my great grandmother. William
went on to marry two more times and fathered several more children before
his death in 1880.
Susan married Nehemiah Hart in 1871.
They lived for a time in Missouri prior to moving on to Southeast Nebraska
where they settled first in Johnson county at a small township known as
Sterling before moving on to locate on a farm near Liberty in neighboring
Gage county. Here they raised their children and lived out the remainder
of their years. Susan's cousin, Vardemon Harringon and his wife, Margaret
Hannah Hart (Nehemiah's sister) moved on to Nebraska shortly after Susan
and Nehemiah settling in Sterling. Nehemiah's and Margaret's brother, Elisha
Truman also made the move from Missouri to Nebraska settling for some time
in Sterling before moving further into Western Nebraska.
Susan and Nehemiah's son, Thomas
Earl, is my grandfather.
I have much, much, information on
the Harrington family and would enjoy meeting and sharing with other members
of this family. If you think you MIGHT be a part of it please contact me
as I have only been able to give a tiny, tiny, glimpse here. You might
check my Harrington files on line at the "Family Tree Maker" site accessed
from the from page. However, even those files contain only a small portion.
