WALDEN

Photo of Vance & Matilda, Daughter Belle, and
daughter Amanda Earle.
The Walden family is on my husband's side. Their story, as far as we now
know it, begins in June of 1791 with the birth of Terry Walden, Sr. in Halifax
county, VA. He married, Nancy Donohoe on Feb. 9, 1812, the same year he
was serving in the War of 1812! They lived for a time in Halifax, but then they
and their three known children (am sure they must have had more) moved on
to White county, TN. I first find them there in the 1830 census.

The three known children are Terry, Jr., Nancy, and Thomas. Terry, Jr. married
Louisa Doyle in White county on Feb. 15, 1844. They were blessed with five
children before Louisa passed away in the late 1850s. One of their children,
Vance, was my husbands great grandfather.

Terry went on to marry a second time to Ruth E. Presley the sister of Terry's sisters
husband, Millenium Brown Presley. Shortly after their marriage the family, along
with several other residents of White county,TN migrated to Madison county, Arkansas
where they settled and remained the rest of their days. Terry and Ruth had eight children.

Vance grew up in that wonderful Southwest corner of Arkansas where he
enjoyed life as a farmer. He married Matilda Isabell Presley on Sept. 27, 1867. They
remained in Madison county where they parented 10 children. One of those children,
Amanda Earle Walden, is my husband's grandmother. Amanda married into another family
of longstanding residency in the area, the Marshall family, marrying Ulysess Sydney
Marshall on Aug. 16, 1907.

Amanda, or "Earle" as she preferred, and "Sid" resided for a few years in Arkansas
before they caught the bug to move on and moved their little family to Tekamah, Nebraska.
Here they farmed and enjoyed a good life. Three daughters were born to them, one of whom,
Vergie died very young. Their daughter Rena Blythe is my husband's mother.

I have a great deal of information on the Walden Family including much extended family and
would enjoy meeting anyone who might like to share data and/or learn about this family.
