My first known Goin ancestor is Thomas Goin, affectionately known as "Old Tommy Goin." He was born in the year 1750 in NC. Thomas served in the Revolutionary War under Capt. Bynum out of Greenville county, NC. He is a recognized solider by the DAR.

By 1788 he had moved to the area that later became Claiborne county, TN, where he farmed, raised his family, helped to build a community, served on juries as well as filling other various duties as a citizen of the newly formed area.

Thomas helped to establish the Big Barren Primitive Baptist Church in Claiborne county where many generations of the Goin family were to attend. It is on the pages of the church record books that we find the death of our Thomas recorded in 1838.

Thomas had several children including the child that is my direct ancestor, Levi. Levi stayed in the Claiborne county area where he carried on the Goin tradition of community service and farming. He also reared a large family including a son named Sterling who is my direct ancestor.

Sterling remained in Claiborne county where he continued to escalate the family holdings in addition to raising 22 children! He was preceded in death by three wives. One of his children was James Knox Polk Goin, my great-great grandfather.

James Knox served on the side of the North during the Civil War. (see account on the War Memorial page) He and his young wife, having married in 1865, decided to move on to the newly formed state of Nebraska in 1869. Several family members and friends from the area moved along with them as they made their way to the Southeast part of Nebraska known as Gage county. Here James and Elizabeth became model citizens contributing to the building of this new frontier much in the manner of his forefathers

If you believe you might be (or know you are) a member of this proud
family, please contact me. I have much information and would love to
share.
GOIN, TN where the Goin family resided is very near the
New Tazewell shown here on the map. Several of Sterling's
children began migrating out of Tennessess after the Civil
War. My particular branch migrated on to SE Nebraska,
setting up homesteads in Gage county.

James & Elizabeth Goin
Presented as Early Pioneers
James and Elizabeth Goin, my great-great-grandparents
set up a homestead near Liberty. There they built up
their land and raised a wonderful family. They began
housekeeping in a tiny log cabin in 1869 and finally
built a lovely dream home in the early 1900's.
However, they never forgot the pride of their roots.
PLEASE NOTE: This tiny page is only a small representation of the
information and data I have available on this family including the
various children and descendants of Old Thomas Goin. Please contact
me if you think there *might* be a chance we have a connection.
