Daniel
Bakeman is my first known ancestor in the Bakeman line. It appears that
no one
has yet been able to totally
affirm who his parents are. There is some evidence to support
the idea that they are Andreas
Phillip and Catarien Miller Bakeman.
What I know for sure is that
Daniel Frederick Bakeman was born Oct. 9, 1759. Though
the date is certain from Daniel's
own words, the place of his birth is still being researched
...Holland, New Jersey, New
York?????
Daniel resided in New York for
his documented life. He married Susan Brewer Aug. 29, 1772
in Schoharie county, NY. Shortly
thereafter he became a soldier in the Revolutionary War.
He served under Col. Willett
and Capt. Van Arnum. Daniel is very famous for his time in the
service due to the fact that
he was the (verified by Congress) last soldier of the Revolutionary
War to pass away at the ripe
old age of 109, April 5, 1869! He had been given a special pension
by Congress just two years prior
to his death. Consequently, his time in the service is well
documented and written up in
various books, magazines, and journals. However, in all of the
various write ups involving
various sources "including" Daniel himself, no one ever asked
about his parents or birth.
Daniel and Susan had seven children,
and from these seven children has grown a HUGE family
of descendants. I am anxious
to make contact with as many as possible. I do have some information
and my own line of descendants
that I am happy to share and am anxious to learn anymore about
this fine family. |
